Rock Golem Character For Short Film

The WIP of a character for a short I’m bouncing around in my head. Conceived, sculpted, rigged in a little over a day. Still working on final texture and the rig needs some work, but I like the way it’s turned out so far so I decided to throw it up here. Lighting is just an HDR image. As always, I’d love to hear everyone’s comments and criticisms, as long as they’re productive!

Looks very interesting, what will this characters role be in the project you have in mind?

I guess it´s a matter of taste, but I don´t like it.

How to explain…
For me that´s a mud golem, not a rock golem. It looks too flat for my taste. The rockgolem I´d expect is made from rocks.
Yours looks like it is made from wet soil and someone carved seams in it.
It looks like it is something covered with stone slabs rather than something made out of rocks.
Also a lava golem might work for it as it is now.

I also think that it is too flexible - looking at the right image at the elbow - in an animation it will take away a lot of it´s heavyness and solidness when “rock” deforms like a skinsuite with stoneslabs glued on it.

Personally I´d go back a step with the project, work so the rocks look more stone-ish instead of slab-ish and break the model apart and rather parent the majority of the model to the rig to have a stiff, anorganic model, rather than skinning it.
I guess I´d even use softbody dynamics to parent them to the bones. This way when the golem takes a step you can feel the momentum and the weight along with the impact. It will move stiff and heavy, and the rocks will bounce each time a step impacts the ground, along with a little camera shake the model could be pink then, people would still feel the heavyness and power.
