Roughness and Black and White?

How does Black and white values [say in a colorramp] affect the Roughness? Is black the rough and white glossy or the other way round?

Black is 0, white is 1
A value of 0 or black will be smooth and 1 or white would be rough.

Hi there,
Just to add something else, some PBR setups might have a “glossiness” or “smoothness” map. They are also grayscale images, and the inverts of roughness, as the name also suggests.
So in those cases, to use in Blender’s Roughness input, you would need to invert them. Otherwise they should also work
