Scale along normal, creating "thickness"

Hi there,

I would like to scale up the trouser depicted below along the normal z axis of the individual faces to create an even space between them and the base mesh, some “thickness”. And I don´t get how. It should not be actual thickness to the mesh, just even distance.

With your selection, try ALT+S and see if this is what you are looking for.

try to hit shift + z to exclude the z axis and see if that helps

Seperate the selected faces->Solidify modifier w a negative value(thickness)
