Scrap Work (video)

This may seem a bit ambitious for a n00b thread, but I could use some criticism on a project I’m doing…

The current version of the rough video is in the link below. I rendered everything without ray-tracing to speed up the process, but the final product, hopefully, will be lit more realistically…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHxcxqlYeEs
So, what am I doing wrong? What did I do right? And what is the little guy building?
(I already know some of the wires don’t connect all the way to the poles. this has since been corrected.)

Whoa, that’s a lot of movie to comment on.

…Hmmm. I like the set. That’s pretty cool. You might want to look into some of that texture stretching on the inside adobe walls. All-in-all, it seems promising. I’ll probably post more stuff as I find it, but it’s a lot of movie. :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh, also. The sparks should go way faster, right now they just kind of drift for a while, instead of being fast, short-lived flickers. Anyway, keep working on it.

Great to see all the work you put into it.

Hope to have more to show for myself.
I like some… most of the camera moves. But after a while I was starting to feel sea sick.

Some nice effects. I like the flashes from welding and the flame is cool… But a little too much focus on it. What is the story? This what I got from it. A guy works in the scrap yard and is build something… Almost looks like a demo reel…

How much time is passing as he is working?

One thing that I am realizing and studying is lighting, materials and textures are really important. It looks like you have done some dirt maps and that looks good. I like some of your lighting.

Negs. Some things are too shiny. And composition seems a little off… What is the central thing that you want us to focus on for each shot.

wow, It looks like a lot of work went into that already, the sets looked really good, so good that the character looked a little rough in comparison the first thing i noticed is that something seems strange about the way the hat meets the head, it almost seems like there is light shinning from there or the hat isnt fully resting on the head a couple times…maybe its just me.

The camera is constantly moving like it can’t decide what to focus on. It was a bit hard to determine what exactly was going on in the scene. There was a guy that had a torch and there were some sparks flying. I think he is making something. What was it? I really like the overall feel of the scene, and the colors are nice. Try to hold the camera still for a few seconds before moving to the next shot. Maybe show us the thing hes hammering on or torching.

Alright, so I tried to contain the urge to swing the camera around wildly, but now I have different problem… after loading the Blend files from 2.37 into 2.42, the dispersal maps ( around the door and window of the room set) went all crazy around the edges… I tried to edit around it so I could have the animatic completed, but I can’t seem to figure out how to correct it. any advice on how to fix this?
