I released a new Blender add-on (or rather an application template) for generating scratch textures. It generates a scratch mask texture and an anisotropic rotation texture to control the direction of the reflection’s anisotropy. This allows for more efficient rendering of scratched surfaces than alternative approaches like bump maps.
The textures can be used to add imperfections to existing materials or to create heavily scratched materials like brushed metals. Some simple example renderings using Cycles, based on Polyhaven’s brass vase 03 model:
