Sculping error?

Recently did the weekly contest and as I was finishing up my last two models and trying to make them look nice with set smooth and or a subsurface they would give a weird sulping error in the main window but this error didn’t show up in the preview.

There is a link to the pictures. My post should be at the bottom. The error I am trying to describe is with the bird’s neck. Yes I understand the model is not finished but I am trying to get this error out of the way so for future models this wont happen. If anyone knows of why this is happening and how to fix it lemme know.

Cheers,
Eric

Try selecting al the verts, and hitting ctrl-n to recalculate normals.

Wow thanks for the quick reply Craig. You seem to be the go to guy on the super newbie questions. Thanks so much!

As a side note. What is this specific problem called and how can it be avoided?

Maybe that’s because I’m a Super Newbie

Thanks so much for all the helpful information. Will keep on blending and coming up with more problems that I don’t know the term for so it’s impossible to do a search for.

Cheers.
