Sculpting - how to get sharp masks?

I have been experimenting with this technique but one thing I can’t figure out is how to make masks sharper in sculpt mode.

What I mean specifically is that in this video, she draws sharp masks using lasso. When I try this on my mesh, which is relatively high poly, it is very aliased. I know you can mask>sharpen but works after you have drawn the mask.

Is there a way to reduce this pixelation in masks or does it depend on the underlying topology?

Yes, it’s essentially just a vertex paint, I guess? :person_shrugging: No topology, no paint

Yes, masking and vertex paint depends 100% on the topology, so if you want more “defined” masks you must have a denser mesh.

Even in the video you can see that she’s using a pretty dense mesh
