"See God then brake..."

When motorsport was motorsport and pilots were pilots…
As a big enthusiast, I am increasingly disheartened to see how motorsport has become somewhat ridiculous over the years, which reminded me of what Kevin Schwantz said about the right time to brake… So I came up with the idea of reliving some great moments with this project. Initially, I planned to create a diorama (which I really like) that is isometric and low-poly, but since it’s my first attempt at both, I struggled to decide how to set up the scene. Then I opted for a more dynamic shot while still aiming to maintain the diorama/model effect.
Just to keep it simple I also decided to try at drawing myself the textures of the bikes and riders using a software I’ve never used before (Inkscape, beautiful software!) and to tackle rigging and posing (also new to me).
So, there are a lot of firsts here… I sweated, but I had a lot of fun in the process.
I hope you like it, your opinions are welcome.
Thank you.

Lovely concept! As a fan myself of those times (which I lived in my early years) I absolutely love the idea and realization. The only thing is that I would have made the Yamaha a little more rounded overall, but again great concept!
I instinctively clicked on the thumbnail and didn’t notice the low poly design, it’s outstanding! I assume that you wanted to picture the famous Hockenheimring episode.

Thanks for your kind words! I’m glad you liked it, especially because you’re an enthusiast too. And yes, your trained eye is right: in the end I staged something similar to the legendary overtaking in Hockenheim but I changed my mind so many times during the process (the Laguna Seca Corkscrew with Schwantz solo or Donington or… :)), hard choice and my mind was exploding, haha. This is why some details do not correspond to the Hockenheim episode (Kevin’s helmet for example) then I set the scene just a little bit more generic.
Thanks!

I really think a subdiv surface modifier would go real well on these bikes! And make them look realistic, you should try it!

Thank you.
I started to work on a regular version of Kevin’s RGV500… I’m too passionate to stop just with this :sunglasses:, but this means that I have to rework on textures and this is discouraging me a lot

Hey man, to be honest this work is amazing, I like a lot how even with the low poly models you achieve a impresive result!
