See intersecting objects

Hi. I have a model composed of many different parts, and some of them intersect into one another. I would like to make it so that no parts intersect, but there are so many parts that I don’t know where to start. Taking the model apart would take way too long, and since there are many intricate parts, especially near the head, I can’t really use x-ray (it gets confusing) Here is a rough sketch of what I have in mind: Capture%20d%E2%80%99%C3%A9cran%20(94)
Thanks in advance.

you can turn on mesh analysis in the overlays and set it to intersect (doesn’t work in xray though) -

You can also try using alt + b to set up a clipping border. It only shows the areas of your scene that are inside the border:

Press alt + b again to return your scene back to normal.

What do you mean by intersect …do you mean that you have many objects, and some of the objects occupy the same space?
Or do you mean intersect in a boolean way?

Does it work in 2.8? I’ve tried it in 2.8, but intersect mode looks more like overhang as there are gradients of color. I know intersect mode should only have red?

I made the screenshot in 2.8. (The build is 2 weeks old, might have changed, never know with blender)

Is there a reason for not using booleans to make them non overlapping?

Are you talking about the boolean modifier? If so, that’s what I’m intending to use, but I have so many little pieces and some are kind of hidden by others so it’s hard to know if using a boolean modifier would even do anything. What I want is to know where there are intersecting pieces so I could not waste time. Anyways, I’ll mark dan2’s answer as the solution and try it in the official release of 2.8 Thanks for helping.

not sure if this is helpful … but you could try this exploded view procedure:
select all your objects - cursor to selected
set pivot point to 3d cursor and only origins
s to scale - all individual objects move away from cursor
scale by a fixed factor so that the scaling can be reversed
might give you a better idea about what is in there
just a thought
