Selecting a Single Object in Blender 2.8

Hey all,

Am I being a dumbass or is this happening to everyone?
How do I select just one object in my scene to move it?
I have a table and a plane as a floor. If I try to select just the table to move it up, it selects the plane as well, and no matter what I do they’re just automatically grouped together for some reason…
Does anyone have a quick shout of what I may be doing wrong here?

Table and floor as a single object?

No, they’re 2 separate objects…
At least they should be as I created the table first, then Shit+A created a Plane…
To me that should automatically be 2 separate objects right?

Select one of them in the outline then hide it. Can you select the other?

The Plane isn’t even showing up on the outliner when I create it…

It’s just not recognising the plane or something…

It’s a single object. If you create an object in edit mode it will be an element of the same mesh. You have to be in object mode to create separate objects.

Just look at the outliner. There is only 1 object listed. Also, your selection highlight shows it to be a single object.

You can also hover the mouse over the plane and press L, then press P, to separate it to an object.

Yes. Separate them in edit mode. P separate by loose parts.

Thank you very much for that.
I finally managed to get it right

I appreciated that greatly and apologies for being daft…
