Selecting ring edges of a sphere using a macbook

Could someone please help me with this? This is a very basic problem, as I am a newbie.

I need to select one ring of a sphere at a time, and I don’t know how to. I am using a macbook, so that means NO RIGHT OR MIDDLE CLICK available. Is there an alternate shortcut?

Use the “B” key, that will select whatever is inside of the white lines.

EDIT: “B” only selects what it is on the surface so you will have to move around the sphere a little to select the whole ring:)
