Selecting Vertices on a Cube

I have a Blender 2.41 cube with eight vertices and twelve edges as shown in Figure 1 on the diagram in the “box.jpg” file. Figure 2 is the side view of the same cube with only four vertices and edges shown although there is in reality eight vertices and twelve edges.

I want to select the four vertices on the left side of the cube in the side view. In Blender 2.41, I pressed tab key (TAB) key and the “b” key (BKEY) to activate the select option in edit mode. When I boxed in the four vertices on the left side of the cube in the side view, only the two top vertices have been selected instead of all four.

My question is how do I select all the vertices on the left side of the cube in the side view?

You need to turn on the X-Ray vision! You know when you’re in Edit Mode, there are the vertex, edge and face select buttons? Next to these is another button that allows you to do what you want.

This button:

Thanks.

Now someone needs to go back and update the quickstart tutorial to mention that little addition to the interface. See “Blender 2.3 Guide”, p. 58, “Box Select”.
