series of tutorials on realistic human modeling

i was feeling a bit bored for a while and my mind is somehow off-track at this moment.so i thought of writing a series of tutorials on realistic human modeling in blender.this will include detailed description of modeling the head, ears, the whole body with hands and feet and the final character setup for posing and animation(excluding facial anim).today i just started to write the head modeling tut.please let me know if you guys feel the need of such tuts or not.

Yeah figures you would make one just as i am getting the hang of it. :stuck_out_tongue:

That would be just great, Kos!

That would be so f****** great!! Go ahead Kos!! I´m waiting for the final result!!

Yes please!

We can always use more tuts!

What kind of question is that ? Do you think people are going to tell you: “Naaah, I think I know pretty much everything about it.” ?

Of course EVERYBODY is going to take profit of a well written tutorial on human modelling, even those who already have a technique for it.

Cheers and keep it up.

malefico.

Such enthusiastic people wishing to write tutorials could consider to sign in Blender Documentation Board (www.blender.org) and develop them in standard fashion so that they can be hosted on blender main site

Ok. There are many tutorials on 3d modeling of the human body or at least parts of it anyway. But very few of these tutorials use an organized planned structure building approach to 3d human mesh topology.

When modeling the Human body you have to be organized and precise as to the order and method in which you layout the network of polygons to form a human body. You may be aware that the human body has certain curves and details that flow smoothly from one section to the other. These details also are important as to how these parts of the body bend and stretch, etc.

3d modeling professionals over the years have defined these areas logically as edgeloop regional patterns.

Blender has a growing toolset that makes use of edgeloop modeling tools.
It is very useful although it lacks some power edgeloop tools like “connection” and “edge splitting”, chamfering, backface culling, real face selection, etc.

As Blenders edgeloop modeling tools stand now, we can use it proficiently for any basic form of edgeloop modeling that involves human characters.

But beyond a tutorial an edgeloop modeler has to understand why a certain pattern of edgeloops was used to build a model. We can discover the logic behind the chosen edgeloop modeling patterns by studying other skilled edgeloop modelers 3d meshes.

I have some experience in human 3d modeling and would like to throw my tips into the Blender human modeling knowledgebase.

I could actually use that right now.

I can’t seem to find many tutorials on proper mesh topology for animating huminoids.

So a blender specific one would be especially nice.

kos, you had mentioned a while back that you would do this and I have seriously been waiting for it. I’m with S68, I think if it was done in conjuntion with the blender docs it would certainly not be buried in the immense pile of current and outdated tutorials out there.
JA-forreal. Yes there are many methods for modeling and I see no conflict in submitting several of them to accommodate various purposes and people types. Ditto S68 on this also.

Not too sure why this year old post is showing up. Anyway, hey oxman try this link
http://www.trimaatrik.org/tutorials.htm
kos is doing some advanced manuevers that are, for me anyway, still today a little baffling, but the tutorial is still up on his site.

[edit]
ah I see. You’re talking about the knowledge base.

[edit 2]
It’s been reported, by whatever, that the link above is passing the REDLOF.A-1 virus. My detector missed this, I’m using mozilla. Firefox is mentioned as safe too.

D’oh!!! :x

Sorry guys, saw the January date, and the 2004 looked right. I keep forgetting its 2005.

Sorry to bring up an old post.

Anyways, I do need some tutorials on humanoid modelling with animation in mind.

See the above link for advanced start.

And the same thread will reappear in january 2006 %|

http://www.trimaatrik.org/tutorials.htm

is the best Blender based tutorial for human modeling… he doesnt get you 55% of the way and then show you the finished picture.

i prefer the joan of arc tutorial.

Tried to access the link … got this:

40 Meg Limit Exceeded!

This site has exceeded its limit of 40 Megabytes of transfer per day. The account can be upgraded to a paid account to increase the transfer limit up to 15 Gigs of transfer per month in your freewebsitehosting.com user tools section.

yup, i got the same error…

its funny because the header of the window that you view that page says “20 Meg Limit Exceeded…” but the page says “40 Meg Limit Exceeded!”

hmm… since when was 20 = 40…?!

~Delta

kos has a classic style and he should be reminded continually that his efforts are not in vain. Besides january 2006 is not too far away %|
