Shadow Catcher is too dark on transparent background

Hi guys,

I have a problem when rendering with shadow catcher on a transparent background. I need the shadow, to be the exact same shadow as on the original render with background. Anyone knows what to do?

Attached file is test 1 which is with the shadow catcher and a new separate background from Photoshop and test 2 which is the original render with a background from Blender.

Please refer to the video

Thank you for the reference. I know how to setup the shadow catcher and the background - the problem is, that the shadow is getting too dark on the transparent background compared when rendering on a non-transparent background and that’s the problem I need to fix. I need the shadow on the transparent background to be as realistic as it is in the render with the original background.

It is also possible to separate and render shadows and synthesize them.

If you attach the .blender file, I will check if there are any other problems.

Enable the shadow catcher pass, and use that as a factor on the colour mix node in compositing. That way, you can have the shadow any colour and value that you desire.

Can you make a screenshot of how the nodes should be mixed?

Here’s a quick and dirty setup - and I’ve shown three views showing the shadow effect. The background is something I threw together quickly in GIMP.

Thank you. What if I wan’t to render it with a transparent background and not use any background afterwards?

Then ignore the first colour mix shader and plug the image output from the render into the lower image input on the second mix shader,

I found something useful
Add a new material on the shadow catcher, and just play with ‘alpha’ option of the princibled BDSF.
this worked for me
