Shadows cast by ocean look different in render to viewport

In viewport, the waves of the ocean cast shadows, but not in render. How can I get them to render? Thanks in advance!

At first, welcome to the community :-),

Which render engine do you use? Somehow it seems like the typical difference between Cycles and Eevee. If you use the material preview option (Shortcut Z) for the viewport, it renders with Eevee. If you use rendered it uses your selected render engine (render settings).

The second problem can be the volume in the rendered image. Perhaps the light paths get to much bounced. That could also be a reason for less noticable shadows. Therefore try to reduce the light bounces for volume in the render settings.
