Silver reflection in texture

Hey, everybody.

I’m making a shield and the texture is showing “silver” on the roughness scale, as if the reflection was on full. Thus making it look like metal.

The problem is that this is happening throughout almost the entire roughness spectrum. Meaning unless I have it almost all the way to 1.00, I get the “silver” on the surface…which defeats the purpose for having a shiny surface in the first place. See the problem???

Blend file … Gladius37.blend (1.2 MB)

I REALLY like this software, as it has so many tools, but damned if I can’t figure this out. I’ve done the “check the box/uncheck the box” thing, added nodes, removed them … but just I can’t figure it out. The down side to not truly knowing how each individual part of Blender works.

If only there were some Blender college classes near me.

The normals on the red part are inverted; the backside of each face is pointing inwards. This confuses your PBR shader’s fresnel calculations which don’t work on backfaces.

Solution: Select all the faces on the red part and press Ctrl+N

Thank you so much!!!
