Simple 3D-print pull up handle changes

Please see an image of my first draft below. (Object is rotated, top is on the bottom)

The object is a simple pull-up bar designed to be placed on top of an support beam (67mm X 162mm). I’ll print it twice, one for each arm.

I’m looking for a experienced Blender artist that can re-create or improve the item as follows:

  • Part A should be made a bit smaller to fit the 162mm
  • Part B should be made smaller, the middle needs to be 35mm (average size?). To increase print strength, it should be thicker at the plate joint (as currently shown)
  • Part B should be placed higher to increase strength
  • Part C should be made thicker to increase strength
  • Inner dimensions of C should be made 1mm smaller to fit better on beam

The previous 2 iterations failed on the 90° angle were A meets C. Any design changes that will increase strength are appreciated.


Offering a base price of 5euro to change the points above in the existing STL.
I’ll double my offer if you’re able to increase the strength / overal design

3D printing is not suited for this, a pull-up bar needs to be able to handle hundreds of pounds of directional force and there’s not a plastic in the world that can handle that without breaking. There’s a reason pull-up bars you buy are metal. You’re going to hurt yourself if you keep trying to do this with plastic

Thank you for your reply. I’ve added some details that I’ll print it twice, one for each arm. So the load of “hundreds of pounds” will be shared over 2 bars.

Also, thanks for expressing your concerns, since this is just a hobby/try-out, and I’m lighter then 150 pounds I’m positive this is doable with a 3d printer, increasing the infill will definitely make it strong enough.

Of course, this ‘job’ is about the design, the actual quality/strength after printing is not related to this and or has no impact in the price.

Interesting request. If they are usually made out of metal, the plastic equivalent cannot be the same size and design. Plastic is weaker and 3d printed plastic is even weaker. I don’t fully agree with Joseph on this one. Sure you can make this out of plastic, it’s just that there would need to be way way more plastic for it to be as strong as smaller metal equivalent. You can make a plastic part that can withstand the same forces as some metal part, the thing is, it just needs to be a lot bigger. And that’s probably A LOT bigger. 3d printing is also different than other manufacturing technologies. While metal part like that needs to have separate parts for it to be possible to manufacture it easily, that’s not the same with 3d printing. Traditional manufacturing methods differ greatly because the materials cannot be hollow inside, so saving the amount of material used looks different on designs for traditional kinds of manufacturing and 3d printing. 3d Printed part can look like this:

That at least looks as if it could be strong. And if it’s like 4-5 cm of solid PETG plastic printed so that the print lines are diagonal or something so that there would be no layers in the direction it takes the force, maybe it could hold some weight. Good luck printing that though…
