Simple UV unwrap 2.65

I have a generic cylinder. I’ve marked a seam around both circles and a single edge down the side. Next I use standard unwrap, but why oh why are the two circles egg shaped?

Yes, with messing about I can sort it, but should I have too! The older versions of Blender never did this…

There are two unwrap methods, Angle Based and Conformal. Conformal tends to be best for non-organic and Angle Based for organic objects (as a rough guideline but not always the case). It sounds like you are using Angle Based. You can switch between the two by looking at the bottom of the toolshelf (shortcut T) or F6 after you have pressed Unwrap.
