Hi everyone. I was wandering… is there a way to simplifying a mesh in a non-destructive way? I have some really hi-poly meshes i have to semplify and then export to another software. It would be useful to have some kind of “shape keys” that stores the mesh as it is. So that i could create several “levels” of semplification to then export the one i need, while stil having all of the different “level” of semplifications in the same blend file (because of course i can save different files with different levels of semplification)
Thank you for your help
Decimate modifier maybe?
Thank you. I meant something more precise where i can decide what to delete. The decimate works sometimes in a weird way, while stuff like “limited disolve” seems to give better results. Also sometimes i want to decide myself what to directly delete (for example internal parts or faces that are not directly visible).
hmm. I don’t think I really understand then. What hinders you from just having a hires, medres, lowres version of the same object in one blend file and export whichever you need?
You can use vertex groups in the decimate modifier to let it know what to delete and what to keep.
If you need to store multiple versions, you could make duplicates of the mesh and tweak the modifier intensity and vertex group for each.
Thanks for your answers. I come from 3dsMax and i’ve been used to the “edit poly” modifier. I guess i’ll make some copies then.
