I’m trying to simulate the hang of an earring, setting a point or a face as fixed and letting the weight of the body adjust with the gravity. Is it possible to simulate this with rigid body physics?

I think you can do that with some Rigid Body Constraints (either a Point or a Hinge, depending on your desired result):
