I’ve been using Blender for well over a decade and have posted my work across multiple websites over that time (including my own portfolio), but this is the first one that really gained some popularity.
All models, shading, rigging, and animation created by yours truly! Used Cycles for the main desk and Eevee for the dinosaur.
I’m eager to know what you all think!
Nice!!!
Technically it’s well done, if not almost perfect. The short story is ok, the shaders and drawings are well done, the animation is cool!
The wavy camera movement, however, is quite poor. It makes all the rest loose importance and blocks our atention to whatever actions are happening in the scene.
I think it looks fantastic.
Thanks for the compliments! I guess the camera movement is something I cold have worked more on. I was going for a handheld feel, almost like this was happening on my real desk and I needed to film it so people would believe me. I guess I just needed to either commit to it and not just slap a noise modifier on the animation, or just focus on the readability. I’ll keep that in mind for the next project.
The thing is that the Noise modifier alone is not very nice, and for a good effect, you’ll need to animate the modifier parameters, and that’s not an easy task.
A faster, and more natural solution is to place some markers over your real desk (it can be anything, actually). Grab a camera or your smart phone and record you camera action.
Then use the camera solver in Blender to pass that camera movement into your scene camera.
It’s definitely not a bad idea. It would have required a bit more planning than I had for this one (I just wanted a short project to finish in two weeks to get myself back into the groove), but it’s worth considering if I want to make this idea any bigger.
I featured you on BlenderNation, have a great weekend!
Wow! I’m honored!
