Sketchs trees for free, I/O FBX to Blender

Stunning. Dreaming about Sapling addon reaching this level of awesomeness + chance to distribuite randomized trees over meshes via particle nodes… XD Can’t I dream?

Thanks for the post. I installed the App and exported a Tree. It only seems to make FBX files. I was not able to access the file via iTunes so I used iFunBox instead. iFunbox allowed me to copy the FBX tree file to my desktop and delete the original on the iPad.

So I am not sure how to import them into Blender directly? The official 2.64 Blender can only export FBX, not import FBX.

I was able to use Houdini apprentice to load the FBX, however, so I can see the tree. But Houdini Apprentice does not allow you to export any data.

Does anyone have a workflow with converting FBX to OBJ?

Also I could not locate any of the texture maps so all you can get out of this app is geometry at best…so far.

Amazing!
Same thing for OSX?

Thanks for posting anyway!

You can try with meshlab to export as .obj. Does it only work on Ipad ? I try to use it on win7 but f*****g itunes, etc… I really don’t like Apple…

FBX Converter http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/pc/item?id=10775855&siteID=123112

there should be the educational versions of 3dstudio and maya on the autodesk website. You can import fbx there and export as obj.

However, amazing app… actually I am curious to see if there is something so powerful on windows because I nevers seen it…

You might be able to change the file’s extention to “.dae” since fbx is based off of collada.

@Rawzombie: Thanks, for that converter link. It converts the FBX file to a DAE that Blender 2.64 Collada importer can read. You need to rotate the entire tree object by 90 degrees along the X-axis after import, but it works.

Amazing, any chance to ported to windows?? for people who don’t own an ipad, also WHY on earth arbaro is not as easy an intuitive as this?? why god why!?

Now what we need to make this app a KILLER APP is to be able to create low poly meshes, LODs and that will kill every app out there for sure.

How vertex/face heavy was the tree when done? Just wondering how it compares that way with sapling and other similar tools? The video makes it look like a really powerful tool.

Well a quick test gave me 49000 faces a bit slow in blender but manageable. I think this is better than sapling because the options are far more intuitive than sapling also the way you create the tree is awesome you feel like a god, by the way arbaro/ngplant had nothing to do regarding the easy to use / interaction while you create the tree (only tree[d] is close); unfortunately this software is only available in IOS, lucky that I own and Ipad 2. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hello,
Long before i mentioned about this application in this form, and i was wondering if anybody can port the blender 2.49 script “tree from curves” to blender 2.65. See the video

In old blender making curves were headache. But I think now it will be easy with the options like grease pencil etc.
thanks

the guy should port it to Windows for Windows8 Tablets. (sell in in the Windows app store)
but also standalone installer for regular computers(mouse or tablet pointer device)
Windows since its 90% of the market.

If you dig a bit further in the o.p. link, you can find your way to the base university site and publications regarding it and other simulation works (one is python related). I haven’t looked at them myself, and I’m sure if there is any programming methods mentioned in them they will be quite over my head. But someone might see something inspiring in there.
