FAQ:

Is this tutorial for BEGINNERS?

YES! This course is aimed at total beginners when it comes to portraiture… Whether you are a 3d artist, a cartoonist or a graphics designer focused on human characters this course will up your drawings, sculpts and renders!

Can ADVANCED and INTERMEDIATE students benefit from this course?

YES, totally! I have divided the homework in this course into a few levels to cater for students that want more or less of a challenge and as I’ve stated before, “…not too many artists cover the skull in depth.” (I’m paraphrasing here) and because of that I’m sure you will learn more than you thought you would especially when it comes to actually drawing the skull from memory; if you cant already do this with confidence then I’m sure you will benefit even from the first part of this course!

Do you provide resources with this course?

Oh YEAH! There will be quite a few resources i provide like renders in the course packs AND 3d models on my website ( CLICK HERE ) for you to use and learn from!

Do you cover shading in this series?

No. I think shading is a bad idea for beginners so i have pretty much eliminated it from this course… Now, don’t think that this course cant teach you anything because there’s no shading… Shading is great when you actually understand the forms underneath and want to exaggerate or hide them. And that’s what this course teaches you; the basics of the skulls forms and also, later, the more complicated stuff like skull variations and tertiary landmarks etc… Once you’ve mastered this you can apply shading to build on what i teach here (which isn’t shading, haha).

Just how many skulls will I draw in this course?

Around 200 - 300 skulls depending on the levels you choose to tackle and also if you choose to do more/ less work when it comes to the homework…

300 SKULLS !?!?

YEP. I know it seems crazy but this course encourages you to take your time and do things at you own pace and rhythm; i also go through burnout and what to expect from each part of the course so you aren’t too focused on one thing without knowing it.

Can i contact you if i need advice or help on a particular part of the course?

Of course! You can contact me on ArtStation, social media etc. (see links below). You can also join the Discord channel once you buy the course… Also, depending on the number of students that submit their work for critiques I will post a video critiquing your submissions.

I’m still a little on the fence…

No worries; all my courses come with a 30 day money back guarantee AND i also have a free (limited) version of this course on my YT channel (Thivolan 3D) for anyone to view!

A summary of each part and what to expect:

Part 1 - Basic skulls:

In this section we will walk through the very basics of drawing and go through some drawing exercises to get you into the groove of drawing everyday. After that I will walk you through the simple drawings and views of the skull: front, side, back, top and even the bottom view. Its here that you will learn how to envision, memorise and quickly sketch each side… After all that you will apply your new found knowledge on actual faces with skull traces! This is the foundation that will be built upon from here on out.

Part 2 - Skulls in 3d Space:

In this section we will really start to nail in the anatomy and points of the skull. You will also learn the basics of perspective and drawing simple objects in space so that you can draw the skull in space from any angle… We will also go through some gesture sketches and discuss how the variations in gender, race and body types effect the skulls shapes and forms.
