Coming from a CAD background. Just wondering if there is anything like the slice command in blender 2.54 similar to that found in Autocad. Or using cutting planes. Just for arguments sake, say I want to cut the default cube in half, edit mode, how would most folk go about ? Or cutting shapes out of primitives/objects. Total Blender newb here, though familiar with Solid/Nurbs modelling in CAD packages.
or just use Knife Tool
Go to an Edit Mode, select all vertecies, rotate view to the cutting possition and press “K”, choose Knife (Exact). It does only straight cuts.
Also use orthographic view and wireframe draw. Because in Solid mode it doesn’t cut through mesh.
You can also loop cut with Ctrl-r use the scroll wheel to define number of cuts and if you want separate pieces use the rip command. I use the ctrl-r command a lot since the first cut defined is exactly at half and can be slid where you want. However this works better on simple objects or complete loops the best.
@Maxwellbest: if you want cut just a cube in a middle LoopCut is better, that is right.
Just one note -don’t expect things like Nurbs behavior. For example if you use SubdivisionSurface Modifier, cut change the result ofcourse.
For some kind of work you can use material setup and compositing to hide a part of a mesh http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=168570
It has some artefact in render, done by perspective view of camera, but how I sad it works for some needs
