Small irradiance volume inside big Irradiance volume (EEVEE)?

I have a lighten room and a small box in centre of this room. The box is almost completely covered and it should be dark inside, but only one volume is not enough for this because of lack of resolution (increasing it would be huge overkill). So I tried to place little volume inside the box, but it didn’t take any effect, then I set Visibility Collection for all volumes and nothing again. Seems like big volume overlaying small one.
Is there a workaround for situations like this?

According to the Blender manual:

If multiple Irradiance Volumes overlap, smaller (in volume) ones will always have more priority.

I noticed that if you put entire IRV inside the cube it doesn’t work, at least outer border of the IRV must be outside (I don’t know the reason, might be a bug):
Here is blend file to test: irv_test.blend (637.3 KB)

Here is a close up to corner of small cube in the middle of the room:

I used small distance so that the darkness inside the cube would not leak out too much.
