Smite 3d Art

Hello fellows!
My name is Rashad, I’m an artist at Hi-rez Studios, and for the last couple of months I’ve been transitioning from 3dsmax over to Blender in my professional and personal projects, and I wanted to share some of the work I’ve done with the help of Blender. It’s all 2.79 for right now, but going forward I’m taking the plunge with 2.8, which is absolutely amazing.
You can also see more of my professional work on my blog here! http://chasarsis.blogspot.com

“Meeeh, blah blah Blender is not for professionals blah blah…” :roll_eyes:

Oh yeah? Well what about this kind of stuff then?!!

Welcome to Blender! And thanks for the amazing art!

Hello there,
amazing job! I am wondering if you could share with us what made you switch to Blender in a first place?

Ok know this is the best thing i`ve seen so for great work man…

Amazing work! Keep it going!

hmm I wonder why this looks so awesome
must be because it is awesome :smiley:

Thanks, and yeah! Each character averages around 16000 triangles, so it gives us a lot of leeway with detail!

Thank you :slight_smile:
And yeah, Blender’s pretty awesome! There’s actually a couple of folks at my office who use it as their main modeling package

Initially it was because I wanted something I could use at home for my own personal projects that didn’t require an expensive license. Then as I learned more about Blender and got more comfortable with, it was because it’s superior to 3dsmax in most regards. Modeling speed, customizability of the interface, plugins, overall clarity, speed of UV unwrapping.

TLDR: Money initially, then features. :slight_smile:

@BuildJordon Thank you! It really lucky that I work with a bunch of talented folks and an Art Director and Lead who really know their stuff

@QuirkyTurtle Thanks!

@kilon Thanks, and I love it! I’d never had a relaxing modeling experience until I used Blender :stuck_out_tongue:
And I’m glad you like Smite!

@CDMJ Thank you!

You’re #featured! :+1:

PS: topics can have only 5 tags, I had to remove #sculpting in order to add this one. Hope that’s ok!

Oh wow, thank you!

“Gawd, why do I care so much about silly little details?” Oh well, I’ll say it anyway …

Particularly in the first model, I think that your costume should include “light-colored and dark-colored areas” more-or-less on both the bottom and the top. Somehow it stnds out to me that the character has brightly-colored features on his head, arms, and torso, and (slightly) on his feet and knees, but his chaps seem dark.

The concept of the “fire queen” … hmm, is (s)he?) a queen – however, to me is absolutely delicious. I love the idea of a femme fatale trailing a train of pure fire. (If she isn’t a girl, maybe she should be.) I don’t think I’ve seen that visual idea used before.

That’s amazing, keep going! And welcome to the Blender Community!

@sundialsvc4 Thank you for the feedback! For Smite we make a deliberate effort to focus our values and details on the upper body, and let things get darker as we go down the body to help focus the eye near the center of the play area, but for my personal work that’s something I’ll keep in mind!

For the Fire character, he’s an River god named Hebo, so the team thought it would be cool to give him a different version where he was all lava and obsidian instead :slight_smile:

@Artstallion Thank you! Hopefully I’ll be able to convince some more folks to follow me over to the Blender side

I’ve featured you on BlenderNation, enjoy :slight_smile:

:scream::scream::scream: I really loved your job. Did you do any of the characters in Palladins? :purple_heart::purple_heart::purple_heart:

@bartv That’s awesome! Thanks :slight_smile:

@LelePozo Thanks, and not to much. I mostly helped with a few minor skins and prototyped some visual changes
