Smoke flow force field does not work in mantaflow

No matter what I do or what I tweak it simply does not work. I am working in blender 2.82

The particles simply don’t wanna follow the smoke.

It´s been a while, but I am still having the same issues 2 years later. Tried all blender Versions between 2.8 and 3.2 and I cannot get that force field to work. It seems like I am missing a specific setting, or…maybe this feature is so buggy that it just doesn´t work for me.

Anyway - I would be very happy if someone could briefly layout how to setup this force to work.
my approach is the following:

  1. create quick smoke with a standard cube. Bake simulation.
  2. use the same cube as a particle emitter - turn off velocity and Gravity in emittersettings
  3. apply to the very same cube a forcefield (smoke flow force) and pick the smokedomain. Turn up strength to 5 and flow to 2 (as seen in a tutorial)

this is how it doesn´t work on my machine… :frowning:
any hints please?

cheers eL

There you go I made it work.

I cannot upload the blend file.
So I will explain you the steps:

  1. Create a cube for a smoke domain
  2. Create a cube for a smoke and particle emitter
  3. Set that cube as a smoke inflow
  4. Bake the smoke physics
  5. Create the empty with fluid flow force field (strength 10, flow 1)
  6. Create a particle system on that cube that is emitting smoke (smoke inflow)
  7. On the cube that is emitting the smoke, bake the particles (with gravity set to zero)

This is how the modifier setting is looking like.

It will work either way, be it fluid physics first or particle system.

Thank you Vedran.
Now I see what my mistake was: I created the Flow Force ON the emitter whereas it should be an empty on itself.

Thanks for helping.
