Smooth Curves on hair changing Material

The true normal displays the correct material on this hair, but when I switch it to smooth curves, the material appears to change. Now I understand that the material should appear slightly different (smoother) but this is pretty drastic. Any ideas? Richard?


There is some real weirdness going on. I opened up another blender instance and was trying to make a simple recreation of the issue using a sphere – I couldn’t do it. Then when I went back to my human model, the hair was correctly blonde with smooth shading on. A bit puzzled. I’ll try to recreate it later.
