Smooth cut

Hi, I am trying to create a difference on 2 cubes where subdivision surface modifier is applied. But when I try to cut, the edges are not smooth

It is supposed to look like a helicopter cockpit. Please advise.

The problem with this methode is: the geo- and topology changes after the cut… so the subdiv gives different result… you may try to:

  • model this in more detail… (using a more circular shape at the borders and extrude along the wanted surface) or
  • make a copy and cut what you want and shrinkwrap onto the origianl shape, then solidify and bevel or subdiv this to your likeing…

And after thinking a bit about it unconsciously (in a background process so to speak :grin: ) a tried a quick modelling with simple subdiv, dividing mesh, adding inner faces and some scaling…

so… it’s fairly easy to accomplish… :helicopter:

Or you can create a cube that you subdivide with a Smooth of 1:

Rip its front faces with V:

Select the windshield, move and scale down a bit:

Give thickness to the hull with an Alt E > Extrude Faces Along Normals:
