Smooth shading is not so smooth on the render

So… is it really suposed to wotk like that ?
I looks pretty smooth on the viewport, but when you render, the shadows don’t smooth properly… The pillows are not low poly to have that bad shading… Even if i subdivide it 2 more times, i can still see hard shadows…

What is going on? Can’t Blender shadow low poly objects?

I don’t think that i should need to subdivide it so much to get a smoth result… The rest of the shadows are perfect. But on some angle where the ligh hits, it just don’t smooth… Looks terrible…

For the low poly issue (your sphere example) you might want to do a forum search on “terminator artefact”, as this has been discussed hundreds of times before.

For the normal map issue: Hard to say without access to the file and seeing your node setup…
Is the normal map set to “Non-Color Data”? Is its strength reasonable? Is this one of those normal maps with additional info hidden in an alpha channel (which Cycles doesn’t like AT ALL)?

So many questions.

So looks like this is something that has always been there…
