smooth shading weirdness...

sup. I’m getting weird render artifacts on a few models that have tightly-bunched edge loops for sharp edges with “set smooth” on:

The sharp edges are really bright in some areas which doesn’t make sense. Isn’t smooth shading supposed to blend between the lighting values of adjacent faces? It’s seriously reducing the realism of the render. Anyone know how to fix this?

not sure what is causing that, but maybe giving it a bevel would fix it. also, i think your normals map is inverted, which may be part of the problem.

hi, sorry for bad english, im new blender user.

do i need invert normals map, and how?

thank you.

oh thats easy to fix.
just press a in edit mode to select all vertices and then press ‘ctrl+N’ and that shud be solved.
if that dosent solve the problem u can manually select the faces in edit mode and select ‘flip direction’ under normal from tool bar on left side of ur window.

thanks, now everything ok.
seems’ll accidentally press Ctrl + N then working in this part of model.
