Smooth with shrink wrap, re-topo related

Hi, I’m re-topoing a scan(purple) into new geo(grey).
Shrink wrap snaps vertices onto the scan, but left uneven space in between edges.
I would like to smooth/relax the vertices for more even distance in between.

However, RMB->smooth vertices does not do meaningful changes.
and in sculpt mode, smooth brush is not evening out the distance either.

does anyone have encountered this situation?
what would be a good method, other then manual tweaking vertices one by one?
thanks !

Hi!

Don’t know if it would help, but I’d change Wrap Method to Project (might not be important at all).

I’m assuming you don’t want to apply the modifier just yet?
In that case remember that Sculpt works before modifiers - what you’re trying to smooth was not distorted yet. You can “refresh” vertex positions to reflect the modifier results by duplicating the Shrinkwrap Mod and applying one of them. And then try smoothing. (Repeat anytime you feel that retopo geo is behaving the wrong way)

you should use target normal project - above surface or nearest surface point - above surface…

and if the vertices jump a lot, apply the shrinkwrap mod (but duplicate it and then apply it) repeat every time if necessary when adding new topology specially…

thank you two.
it is tedious to have apply multiple shrinkwrap modifier.
but looks like I’ll just have to do it.

Heh, I eventually gave up and made a button that does that for me with python. Makes things ever so slightly easier =)
