SOC-2014-Nurbs by Jonathan deWerd

seems dead… is this going to get in trunk some day?

Don’t hold your breath. Nurbs support has been started and abandoned several times in the past 10 or so years. While there are probably many users who’d need it (me included), there doesn’t seem to be (m)any interested developers. Also, the focus of Blender in recent years has been rather in the direction of character modelling and animation, not really a NURBS field.
Try to find a way to convert your models to a tessaleted format that Blender can import. The imported model will require some rework: remove doubles, recalculate normals, use Auto-Smooth, convert to quads, manually clean mesh, etc.

How much time/money will require to finish the adoption of NURBS in Blender? A lot of people that are working with CAD/CAM data will be interested in relaunching this project, and if we will be enough peoples interested in this we can hire a developer to finish this project. I will gladly donate a lot of money to see NURBS and CAD import/export capabilities in Blender.
