(SOME) NSFW work should be featured in the top bar

I think the only time Epic Games did an emergency shut down of the Fortnite servers around the world, was when the “tank top” girl slipped through QC and had to much boob jiggle while doing the “Seinfeld” dance.
After reading that I remember thinking to myself, “Wait, isn’t that the game were you shootgun your friends in the face to win? But they’re concerned how boob jiggle will effect their players?”

It’s a weird world we live in, lol, at least here in the USA. Nipple will get you a “R” rating in movies but cutting off someones head will get a PG-13 rating.

Sometimes I feel like I’m living in a episode of the Twilight Zone  . You know the one were everyone on the planet thinks that a certain horrific act is perfectly fine, and you somehow are the only one who sees what’s really going on.

It’s like if you were invited over to your brother’s house for dinner. You arrive at the house, and knock on the door, ready for a great family meal.
Your brother answers the door and welcomes you inside. You hear his wife call out from the kitchen, “Is that Tim? Tell him dinner is almost ready!”
As you turn the corner of the foyer… you see his wife in the kitchen stabbing a yelping puppy to death with a large kitchen knife.
She looks up at you and smiles and says, “I hope you like puppy!”
Oh yeah, as a side visual to the scene, your brother’s kids are in the living room, wide eyed and drooling, playing a video game where you can kill as many people as your heart desires… and at the end set of nuclear warheads. Lol

Once you start seeing it you can’t un-see it. LOL

But hey, I ended up in this dimension somehow and it’s the laws y’all live by so…

I do agree that there is somewhat of a double standard here among most Americans. However, many conservatives here will also draw the line in the area of violence if the nature of it is gratuitous. There is also what is known as ‘artistic nudity’ which doesn’t carry any sexual theme or is not sexualized at all, which many of us have less of a problem with even though the option not to view it would be welcome. However, we draw the line here as well if the use is gratuitous.

So for violence or violent themes, we do have standards here too and will generally oppose the use of it if it is either extremely gory or does not contribute to the story or plot in any way.

Hey @bartv I totally understand NSFW tag and blurs but shouldn’t that topic be unflagged?

Yep, I’ll take care of that.

that what is called evolution. clothes are technology, witouth them we surely could getting rid off taboos and “cultural dictatorship” but it also mean spitting on evolution and technology and going back in time.

you cannot expect humans to hide their body and at the same time getting rid of taboos, choose one or another.

there’s also a difference between being naked and being sexually suggestive to someone else.

Are you saying that the existence of clothes creates taboos by itself?

it have a huge part of it i think

Clothing also prevents the majority of men and women from lusting automatically whenever they walk by someone of the opposite sex. That is not to mention that if clothing disappeared, the historic problem of women being seen as objects for the pleasure of the man would increase dramatically.

This applies to clothing in art too, I do wonder how many here would even approve of imagery of children being chainsawed in half simply because it contained the “art” label?

The whole “artistic nudity” argument is an important one, but it’s not the issue at hand. The issue at hand is if you go to blenderartists.org and you see a young girl in a suggestive pose, clearly showing a lack of underclothing and a large amount of skin, which you currently do, if that’s a problem.

This is in fact a problem for anyone attempting to access blenderartists.org at work. Again, regardless of any personal views about nudity, the fact cannot be denied that I was obliged to rapidly scroll down away from the featured work just now, because I am at work in an open office setting. If any of my co-workers had seen that image, I would have been reported to my supervisor. I did NOT seek out this image- it was forced upon me just by visiting this website. Please ignore personal or cultural sensitivities and bear in mind that some people do access this site at work.

Seriously? Not that I don’t understand the direction you’re heading, but wow, that must be some charming atmosphere of mutual trust in your office … thanks for reminding me why I prefer to work without a “supervisor” or any other resemblance of a “boss”.

I should clarify, I love my job and workplace. I work on campus at a private Christian university as a motion graphic artist/faculty support, and it’s great. The thing is, we have a very strict pornography policy across this campus, and regardless of your personal views, it cannot be denied that the current Features banner has content that would be regarded as soft-core pornography.

It doesn’t matter if it’s artistic. I agree with @Ace_Dragon that this image seems to be more along the lines of vulgar objectification, and many of you disagree; that’s completely fine, we all have our opinions and beliefs. All I’m asking is that this site respect those of us who do have a strict content policy at work.

Unfortunately, because of the way word definitions evolve over time, the very threshold of what constitutes pornography has moved significantly higher than in decades past.

If we take the old threshold, you would find that it is now commonplace on public TV shows that do not even have a mature rating. Eventually, the category will cease to exist because there will be no such thing as something too graphic to expose to someone of all ages (even the public schools in many nations are preparing the kids to revel in that brave new world).

You also mentioned your faith, we have to get used to the fact that the world is again becoming like the days of ancient Rome, and this will be an expected hazard with every facet of the secular world. The solution for total avoidance isn’t that great either, the best of which is finding the nearest Amish community and telling them you’re joining the order.

On a more immediate note, one can always try to create an alternative Blender community by conservatives, for conservatives, but how are we supposed to have the devs. visit and make it as useful as BA?

First, that might be the most inadequate case of whataboutism I ever saw. That wannabe analogy is monstrous, no idea how anyone can bring it up on such an occasion.

… and no, nudity doesn’t inherently sexualize women as long as both sexes share the same liberal attitude about it. On the other hand men forcing clothing rules upon women in order to “protect” them from other (competitor) males represent the archetype of male-dominated cultures, and there’s nothing particularly nice with that.
There have been plenty of human cultures proving my first point, and there are plenty of cultures around proving my second. So, apologies to force the point, but you’re wrong.

Just to note, there are probably a lot more conservative artists who have accounts on this site than you think.

However, it’s probable that they are afraid to speak their mind on things like this, because doing so will attract a mob dedicated to cussing them out and abusing them verbally. Don’t believe it, look at the behavior at nearly every other community-powered place and comment section on the internet that isn’t explicitly labeled as religious or conservative.

Most of all, my remark was aimed at the suspected denouncing by your coworkers. The very idea of a room full of people supervising each other and running to some superior instance at any minor occasion seems a lot like some orwellian dystrophy to me. Glad to read that it doesn’t feel like that for you.

… and yet that doesn’t make a horrible analogy a good and a false claim a true one.

Ever hear of a phenomenon known as “ratings creep”, definitions and thresholds do change over time, and oftentimes in the direction of being loosened. What was considered almost pornographic in movies back in the 1970’s is now considered safe for the public audience (in some cases) in 2019.

If clothing didn’t exist, men would be lusting at nearly every women they see if they were walking in a public area. Does anyone really need to lust that badly, to where it pains them to see digital characters wearing clothes? By that I am by no means suggesting to put the ‘fate’ character in a hijab or burqa (as most of us are not that prude unlike how we get stereotyped), simply adding a little underwear and a slight pose tweak would reduce the shock value.

This board could really benefit from more diversity. More women and more people from various walks of life.

Aside from workplace regulations and laws – filtering systems at work might end up flagging/banning the site for nudity/porn – please keep in mind, many without means might only be able to access the site through schools and libraries and other public terminals where yes(!) other people’s views on nudity matter quite a lot. It seems like a small compromise to blur/have to click to view NSFW images if it helps grow the community to reach a broader audience.

I agree, but again, this thread is about whether or not NSFW material should be in the top bar. Out of respect for people at work, NSFW images should not be in the top bar. Personal opinion lacks strength here; should NSFW material be displayed on a site that is viewed by people at work and has NO 18+ entry requirement or warning? By definition of “not safe for work”, no. No it should not. Please respect those of us that view this site at work by NOT having “not safe for work” material visible upon merely loading the page.

And they won’t / have never been. After discussion with the moderator team, the BB(Fate) image was decided to not be NSFW.

I get the overall anime “ero-kawaii” aesthetic, but for what it’s worth, the odd lighting coming from the bottom makes the BB model currently on the top row look more NFSW than it should be, at least from the thumbnail. Perhaps it is less of an issue on big screens with high resolutions.
