I’m just getting into nodes, and am reading the wiki about render passes, something which i’m pretty sure i’ll need when i finally put some cg on top of the real stuff.
The manual says various thing about the render layers panel in the scene pane, specifically the buttons down the bottom (see link). I have Combined, Z, Vec and Nor, but not all the others like Col(our) and Sh(adow) etc. It says something like you have to have it being used to get it, but I know for a fact there are shadows on in my scene, and even when i turned on mirror it still didn’t show.
My question is where are the rest of the passes, and how do I get them? Do I need to do some fancy noodle first, or enable something else or what?
Buttons are in the scene settings’ ‘Render Layers’ tab. [! I think that’s what we’re talking about! ]. Some of the buttons were there for a while but they didn’t do anything until recently. Maybe that’s what you saw. Or the video you watched showed a custom version built from source code after the feature was fully implemented. The current version showing in the binaries is still 2.42a even though they’ve gone to release candidates.
The rc2 from blender.org is there now though, so, no worries.
sorry i wasnt clear. what i should say is that in order for the output socket on the RenderLayer node to show, the pass must be enabled in the RenderLayer panel in the buttons window. So, in order to be able to have the Shadow socket show up on the RenderLayer input node, you must have the “Shad” button enabled in the Buttons window, Scene Render buttons, Renderlayer panel.
