There isn’t really anything new. I’ve been working on some further animation that isn’t ready just yet using the mean cat and some effects.
In the meantime, though, just to have something to post and to keep these forums going, I’ve re-rendered and did some post-proc to my already finished 17 secs of animation. In case anyone remembers the last time they saw this footage, the bird rotated in place. I have since added some appropriately birdly business between hops.
I gave it to you at 640x350, so you can get a good full-screen letterbox experience. One lady in my office who saw it said “That’s kind of… beautiful.”

ooh…very nice animation…
I think it has very high quality factor…
all made in Blender ?
what DOF feature did you use ?? :o
Thanks. I used the camera-on-a-circular-path DOF method. All made in Blender - though the final frames were given the blown-out glow look in Photoshop before I made the final avi.
Without doubt the most realistic+artsy looking (very) short animation I’ve EVER seen done with blender. Great colors, lovely lighting, beutiful post, annoying bird! =D
Bravo, and I hope to see more where that came from! =D
Ps. Any chance of a behind the scenes look at this? A small page showing wireframes, post proc techniques, cookies and marshmallows? =)
How’d you create the landscape?
The twigs and grass looks really good. Did you use the lsystem script? I’ve been working on terrain like that one for my first short film.
Looking really good! The motion of the bird is very realistic. However, birds move a lot faster than that! The peck is about the right speed, but the jumps look a little bit slow-motion. I know, you want it to go slower so that people can see your animation skills, but I can see your goal is for realism.
Very very nice! Just a couple of things that may be improved…? Like someone else said, maybe you should try making the bird go a bit faster. Also, try turning down the motion blur a bit. It seems to be a bit more blurred than one would usually expect in a camera.
Sensational work though. I can’t wait to see the full thing, though I can imagine how much work you’re putting into and how long it would take
