SpaceGooose's X-Wing Starfighter

Hello everyone! After finishing the Teapot House, I started looking for some new images and concept I could use as reference for my next model, and then I found this amazing and ludicrous X-Wing design by digital illustrator SpaceGooose.

It was a good chance to play around with some hard surfaces techniques, and other silly stuff.

What launches this from merely great into straight up awesome territory is that there’s a cat flying it.

Nicely done @Liberi_Arcano!

How did you do the smoke? It looks awesome and really “solid”. It almost looks like a column with some really tightly grown creepers on it - very organic and fitting really well with the overall style of the image!

And yes ANYTHING is better with a cat

Thanks, Jonathan!

For the smoke trails, I gave a Principled Volume material with a noise texture node and some mapping/tex coord tweaks to a cube, then I assigned the cube to a particle emitter. Then, the emitter was assigned to a simple curve to animate the trail, with gravity set to 0 so that the cubes wouldn’t fall down or drift away.
