Yeah, I read about that the other day. It’s great, but at the same time, seems a little excessive… like they used him as an example. He’ll probably get out earlier through the holes in the system that reduce most jail sentences though.

I have a feeling that tech-savvy inmates will treat spammers the same way they treat rapists/murderers/etc.

I once read a funnier article where AOL sued a spammer for violating their terms of agreement and took millions, even repossessed most of his property. They gave away his sports car (can’t remember what kind, but it was an awesome car) to an AOL user through a drawing. Make that us: 2!

EDIT:
Here it is, a Porsche Boxter. Not premium, but still an awesome car.

I have to agree. But maybe making an example out of the worst can make all the little spammers stop. I’ve had a friend though who had nothing to do with the crime (AFAIK) but got his company (and thus him) got nailed for embezzlement of federal funds… No slammer time but no company and huge fines.

Wow, the first thing AOL ever did that I respect :stuck_out_tongue:

Any porsche (barring the suv…I hate suvs) would be nice. ESP. ones circa '50s 8)

Well, they sued for a million and gave away a $50k sports car, while also getting loads of publicity and new subscribers from the publicity stunt. I would respect them, but they came out way too far ahead. If they’d given away the Porsche and the million dollars, yeah.

Very true.

Hell ya, that’s the best thing I’ve read all day.

If it were up to me, we wouldn’t have this problem. We would just take all the companies that put spyware on your PC without yes express permission and shoot them on the spot. BAM no more bullshit.

I think the whole justice system is f*cked up these days. Not too long ago there was a man sentenced to 1335 years (not a typo) for peddling child porn media. I’m not saying he didn’t deserve life for making money from that but when you constantly hear of people who are are actual child abusers over as much as 20 years and more getting a couple of years, you can’t help but think there needs to be some redress of balance in the system that prioritises important cases.

These days you can get a longer prison sentence for stealing a mobile phone than for rape so as a for instance, if you raped someone and stole that person’s mobile phone to stop them calling for help, you could get a longer sentence for taking the phone.

Again, I’m not saying long sentences are not warranted but I wish publicity didn’t play such a large part. The sentence above of 1335 years is just plain silly. They could easily have said that the guy was to be jailed for the rest of his life. AOL were obviously pandering up to the general public hatred of spam.

I heard they get beaten with one-button mice. Smack-click, smack-click

Yes, those should have been the true electoral issues. Who cares about abortion anyway. :stuck_out_tongue:

Martin

If they take this to forums…

lmao.

I’d be “shot in the mouth” by now…many times over.
