spartacus as marble bust

after receiving feedback on my bronze bust of spartacus, i decided to follow some of the suggestions in the hope of improving the presentation …

Verry good sculpt and shader, doris. But maybe you should check the hairs another time.
Those spikes are looking so strange.
Sorry for the criticism, i’m a great admirer of your art.

Johannes

Nice sculpt.

I like the details of marble.

thank you, jo and lastradamo … johannes, i keep this in mind, to not repeat another time, but i have spent so much time in this, i really don’t want change anything on it. its time for me to move on. i appreciate your comment, as it helps me to see bad points. thanks

hehe, I`m so happy to see this. You made my day.
Is looking great. The shadow in the left side of the hair (on the wall) is a bit weird, why is that there?

hi alin, yes you did great in pushing me further, i am grateful for that. i like this version better too  … you have a good eye, yes the shadow is a mistake, from the photoshop postwork, i had not noticed it so far…

Nice. I’m a new fan.

Nice work overall.
It’s just my personal idea, I think your texture is harsh and it effects your work in the wrong way.
I think your pose and mode could be more revealed when you apply the texture more slightly.
Thank you.

Hey, great post!
Kirk Douglas then, as Spartacus.
Still searching for some decent reference photo. I will never propose a challenge on a hollywood artist again.
LOL.
BTW, yeah, indeed, what’s happening with the background?

Very cool rework of your bust.
Though the 2 or 3 long spikes in the hair feel a bit more odd in this version than in the previous one, i wonder if it’s because of the difference of material or the angle of view.

see360, glad to hear
partin, yes this is a good thought. you know, often when we work we are so focused on the thing that is difficult, that we forget the obvious.
michalis, as said the background happen was a photoshop “accident”… yes it is hard to get decent references, what i did was searching on youtube for movie clips of spartacus, and take images from these. this way i had quickly lots of reference fotos from many angles, plus what i found more valuable i could see him move… the image quality is not so good of course, but ok when you can see him moving too…
sanctuary, i think its the view angle, on the previous one, the spikes blended more just from the view angle, it was hard to see that they are spikes… i will not do these spikes again, but my idea was here to sculpt somehow his rough hairdo he had as spartacus, look in the scene where spartacus cries, and you see my inspiration.

thank you all!

I like much this bust. Well done!

Happy sculpting.

It’s GREAT! Really digging the marble look. And the hair is spot on.

siebeneicher, thanks!
fred, glad you like  how is viggo doing? i hope you have not abandoned this project…

Nope, only a temporary stop. I gave up blenderizing during Lent. And now it’s Easter Sunday. Game on again!

amazing job! Really cool!
