Special Recipe: short film

A story about a chef, who’s appetite can’t be satisfied with just a simple meal, so he goes out to get the necessary meat …

and it’s finally done:

I’m not happy about everything (lots of mistakes everywhere :p) and I would have spend additional time on it if the deadline wasn’t Wednesday. I modeled (in blender) and textured (in gimp) all characters. I also made the time machine (again modeled in blender and textured in gimp). Everything was rigged/animated in maya and rendered with mental ray. I was also responsible for the shader network (though it didn’t work as well in the set as I hoped). And finally animated the run shots of the cave men (I should have spent more time on them)

Here are the turntables of the characters rendered in mental ray:

for those interested the development was documented here:

Some background information: This last semester I have been working on a minor called Imagination. The goal was to create a short movie. We started out with 45 students and the first period we all worked individually on the pre production of a short, for that we had to create among other things an animatic. Mine can be seen here . Only 15 of those were chosen and were finally produced in 3d. Mine wasn’t unfortunately one of them, and I got assigned to special recipe as a character artist. I worked on it together with two other people (rimsky and bob). The story was created by rimsky, and rimsky and bob both did the set. Bob did most of the animation.

I don’t really consider it my best work, but I learned a lot, and the next short I’ll work on will definitely be better.
Thanks for reading/watching and any questions, comments and critiques are of course very much welcome.

well done!, some fuller/more dynamic sound effects would go a long way

Yeah, I think sound design is a little lacking. But great in all other aspects. What was this made for?

nice story and sound !

lol it made me laugh

Haha, that was hilarious. Who worked on it, only you?

Thanks for the comments guys
@mattimus yeah I agree, the sound was added to the film about 4 hours before the deadline :stuck_out_tongue: But I agree, sounds were hastily added :stuck_out_tongue:
@Animaniac888 it was made during a minor (called Imagination, given at the university of technology delft (tu delft))
@chaad ty :slight_smile:
@A_W_O_L__ nice that was the main goal of the film
@Luka1184 ty, nope I worked on it with two others. I was responsible for the characters, the time machine, the shaderstuff and the running animations of the cave men (which should have gotten more love, but due to time restrictions didn’t). Rimsky was our director and created the story and original concepts, and bob modelled the inside of chef’s house and did most of the animations

nice job & funny!
we have frogs here that make a similar squeaky sound when touched!
lol, very funny.

Great job man, congrats! ;]
