Spring is Here

This scene is based on the characters of a very famous series of books, comic strips and cartoons. Originally created by illustrator Tove Jansson. Moomins would eventually become an animated series and I would say it has a strong presence in finnish culture!

In this case I wanted to create a scene based on these invented moomin characters. It is meant as a gift to a very special person in my life. I hope you like it!

I also want to thank everyone who posted their feedback in the Focused Critiques section, especially @LazloWoodbine and @Kazrarr. Thanks!

Here some clay and wireframe renders:

Wow, so cute. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
Can you tell me the use of sphere around the flower?

Thanks!

The sphere can be used to alter the normals of the leaves of the flower. It is a trick to achieve a more cartoon look. This way the normals of the leaves behave like a single object. I can show it with a quick example:

Here are the leaves with the normals without editing. Then if I add a Data Transfer modifier I can “steal” the normals from another mesh to change the normals of the leaves:

In this case I took the normals from a simpler shape:

This artist here used the same principle to make the trees for his scene. He explains it better than me:
