Lithops are a succulent plant found in South Africa and Namibia. They evolved color patterns and markings to blend in with the terrain. Many varieties have ‘windows’ of clear tissue that allows light inside the plant, where it photosynthesizes, while retaining as much water as possible. They are relatively easy to grow in cultivation, and people selectively breed them to create impressively colorful and unique patterns.
