Lake Baikal is the largest lake by volume in the world. It’s also one of the clearest. Methane is released by decaying plant matter, and the bubbles get trapped under ice, eventually building up layers and layers of frozen bubbles, seemingly suspended in the crystal clear ice.
Thank you for sharing the reference-photo. I have seen lakes with methane ice-bubbles before, but I was not aware that Baikal did this too. Extra points for teaching me something!
Thanks! I like to share the files so that others can understand how it was done to help them appreciate it a little more. Perhaps you could share a little bit about how your images were done too?
