Stacking Textures (my experiments)

I have been playing around with the procedural textures in Blender 2.63 (Cycles). Some interesting results can be achieved by stacking textures together (either inputting one texture into the vector node of another, or colour mixing the output of two textures together).

I thought i’d start to share some of the more interesting effects I have found.

A weird marbled effect achieved by inputting noise into the voronoi cells texture

This one kinda looks like raindrops hitting a surface when used as a displacement.

Another result of experimenting (a bit more complex this one)

That is some pretty neat stuff. Thanks for sharing.

Wow that looks amazing! What does the invert modifier do?

It just flips the colours (black becomes white etc).

one note your supposed to sent a B&W value to the displacement input
so color should be sent through a Color to BW node before then add a math node to control the intensity of displacement !

would also give more control over displace value!

but interesting effect here!

i can see the last one with some redish color for iron rusted !

happy ccyles

The two metal spheres at the end are showing black outlines to the indented areas - this indicates that the contrast on your bump map is too high.

i think this comes from the ramp value node!

but the displacement is a little strong just to show how it does
and with multi node it can be + or negative or inward / outward
which is easy to do with the mult node!

happy cycles

I really like these, I think I am going to bookmark this page for future reference!

wonderful. I too love playing with compositing procedurals.

Though I miss clouds (Perlin) among the available procedurals in cycles right now. The plane terrain though uses it, along with Musgrave…

thre is a cloud

use the nosie node with high value like

  • To get clouds set size to 50 to 150 and this gives clouds texture
