Staircase Modelling

Hey, I wanted to know what the best and most efficient method would be to make the staircase railing (as shown as blue line).

What should your railing look like?

In a relatively simple case, you could use a long object with a curve modifier or even just a beveled curve.

For anything more elaborate, you might have to use a more tailored approach. Difficult to say though, without knowing what kind of railing you want.

I want a railing as seen in this picture:

Curve modifier with a profile. I find them the be nightmarish to get oriented correctly, but maybe you’ll have better luck. That’s the solution.

Create “straight” stairs with enough segments, then use a surface deform and link to a plane with some subdivisions.
Use shape keys to model your plane so it will fit yor curved shape.
By the way if your curve is a simple arc you may use archipack’s stair as basis.

Use a curve. It’s going to be the easiest, and less complicated method. I think you can do some quite cool stuff with curve profiles now, too.
