I was wondering, how would I go about modeling a stamped metal such as a diamond cut (i.e. this:
) onto a mesh? Should I sculpt it on, or is there a way to do a proper modeling job on it?

It depends, modelling in two minutes for yourself out of a halfsphere and using 2 array modifier:
then maybe baking a normal map an use just a quad…
