Well, as I said earlier - I want to make a short animation with this character. I don’t have much experience with enviro, so any feedback is very welcome.
Looking good so far! I yearn to get back into animating, but I have this “other monkey” I have to get off my back.
Thank you
In fact, I have more animation done and what I’m showing here is just a piece of a larger whole, but the rest is still in progress, so I’m not showing it yet. I hid the necklace temporarily, because the simulation would almost certainly crash during this chair jump. The hair also causes a little trouble on the newer version of the blender. I will correct it later. Out of curiosity, I also rendered the version in Eevee to see the textured animation, but the effect is very different from Cycles, so it doesn’t represent the final lighting and materials.
Small update. Except for literally 2 or 3 short shots at the end, pretty much the whole thing. I haven’t animated the worm yet.
The animation is finished. All the things that were supposed to move are already moving. There are still some bugs that needs to be fixed, like the shaky bib, and maybe I’ll add a few little touches to the room. Besides, that’s it. All that’s left is rendering, and as it turns out, it will be quite a challenge. One frame renders around 2 hours on average, and there is aroud 1,200 of them. I have no idea how I will render it.
I’m not saying the animation will be ready by the end of the year, but the animation might be ready by the end of the year. Or maybe not. All that’s left is a bunch last frames to render, some tweaks, and putting it all together.
Well, I guess that’s it. There’s practically no shot where I wouldn’t like to improve something, there’s always a little mistake, but I have to put a period somewhere. It took me an obscene amount of work, rendering time and disk space. The whole project is about 200GB. All of this to create a video that’s less than 20MB. Ehh… I hope it was worth it. Please let me know if you see any obvious mistake - I might fix it if it’s an easy fix. I’m going to sleep or something. Enjoy.
200GB is admittedly pretty huge, but the video looks great! The character’s movements are quite natural, and blend well even with the exaggerated toonier movements (like when she flies). Definitely looks like a worthwhile addition to your demo reel, if you plan to do that sort of thing.
A good half of these 200GB are raw frames in OpenEXR MultiLayer format. One such file takes slightly over 100MB, and there are less than 1200 of them. But it’s worth it, because you can composite/post-process it later without worrying about quality loss.
Thank you! Nice to know you like it. I don’t know if I’ll be doing a demo-reel yet, but this project will definitely have an important place in my portfolio. I have no doubt about it.
Great job!
Thank you!
