I’ve always had a fear of being the first to answer unanswered questions as it might discourage others, likely more capable than I, from taking a stab at it. This change just makes me more nervous. Perhaps for the support category, this could be tweaked to be applied only to questions marked solved?
Be Brave! Go for it if you think you might have a solution, there is nothing wrong with different opinions, there are often many different ways to achieve a result in Blender.
I do not think that it deters other people from answering, I tend to read all the threads that interest me and will answer threads that have already been answered if I think I can add something valid. I know many others that do the same.
When you answer a thread it bumps it up so more people (who do not use the unanswered option) will see it.
