Steampunk Airship

This is an airship I’m working on for a friend of mine, I’ve been away from blender for a while and this seemed a good way to get back into it. Any comments welcome just keep in mind I’m very out of practice.

You are off to a great start. I might suggest adding some fins to the ballon to help with altitude control and some exhausts connected to the ship for the boiler because that is what steampunk actually is.

All in all good work…

air vents on ballon for lenting off steam for decending. Very good though. I haven’t seen someone make one of these in a while.

LOVE it!! I’d make the balloon a bit larger, as is it looks like it might not support the ship in the air. <3 steampunk things, keep up the great work

Along with the bigger balloon, maybe give the bulges some irregularity. That is, have some of the sections bulge a bit more than others.

Also, maybe give the balloon a bit more height above the ship (maybe 25-50% higher?). It doesn’t need much, but a little bit more would help give those on the deck some room to see.

Otherwise, it’s looking sweet.

Added some forward stabilizers, more rigging, made the balloon larger in relation to the ship and added pipes

I love steam punk also. Really improved. Maybe a figurehead would be great.

looking really good :)I always love the idea of airships but designing a believable one is a challenge in itself. got some talent there fido

Yeah, one of these days I’m gonna have to get an airship…
The modeling looks nice

Perhaps even more rigging would be good, you could double up the cabling by using some cool pulleys. Pulleys fit into steampunk don’t they?
I love steampunk textures so I cant wait to see what happens!

Best Regards,
Ben

Some cool pulleys I found on the google:

Something like this?

*Dropped ship lower allowing more clearence
*Added Props and piping to them
*Began incorporating pulleys (Made dark near forecastle)

Decided I would start texturing the permanent features, I know it still needs work on most of them but it’s getting late and I figured I’d post my progress before passing out.
Please give any feedback and advice; Never attempted texturing my models before.

Pretty good for a begginer. Although the ship itself seems a tad dark.

its certainly looking pretty awesome  are you going to animate some of the mechanics of it also? would have to agree with Graphix. the canvas looks a tad dark at the moment but that may just be the lighting  good work, keep it up

Doubt I’m going to animate it, my girl is coming into town tomorrow and this project is going on the back burner for about a month with her here. I’m hoping to get the texturing done before I get too distracted.

ah ok well i look forward to seeing the finished product when you get time :stuck_out_tongue:

What little work I’ve gotten done on my lunch breaks, all comments welcome as always

Finally back on the project, I’ve decided to try and take it in a slightly different direction. The background is going to be a window sill with an open window and an angled shot so the ship appears to be in the sky.
