New update made a Steam crane and moved the bridge a little more in the background of
the scene.

A closeup of the crane.

I’m running into problems Blender crashes every time I render, so I must restart Blender and the render the scene. Ram problems? I have 3GB ram

I also often get “image to small” which scrolls in the console window and halts Blender.

Is there a way to avoid the crashes. It’s beginning to be a lot of vertices(2.mill),faces.

My system

Dell XPS _420
Prosessor Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q9300 @ 2.50GHz 2.49GHz
Ram 3 GB
Vista Home premium Service pack 2

Cool image !
I would contrast the lights.
A bit darker where it’s shady, and highlights on the subjects you want to show.

Amazing work. However, the image is starting to get crowded. I wouldn’t add anything more to the scene. And if you wouldn’t mind, some history on the steam defenders might be interesting.

Looks good, but right now there are too many focus points. The eye is bewildered with so many things to look at, none of which are spotlighted in any way, and all of which are hard to see, that looking at the render is not pleasant. Work on your composition to highlight/spotlight an object or area of this scene to give it direction.

Yeah i agree, i think the Elevator sign, and the car’s headlights draw the attention to them.
Not too fond of the headlights btw…try making only 2 streaks horizontally ( http://www.wowfactorbook.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/Anamorphic-Flare.jpg ) instead of 4, maybe that’ll make it better. I like this scene overall though. Oh lighting might be improved, i think at the moment it is “simple”, not sure how to explain it…
Good luck mate!

delic: Thanks

GraphiX: Thanks. I agree with the crowdedness, but if it’s about
Steam Defenders there must be steam,so that’s why I built the crane.

History of the Steam Defenders? E-hmmm! If you look at the banner(post #16),

the numbers 17 and 69 represents
the year James Watts patented an improved version of the steam engine,
which later led to the Industrial Revolution.
Later that same year on a Scottish castle a secret society were founded.
Steam Defenders swore to defend this amazing new technology with their own lives…

pop850: Thanks. I made some adjustments to the scene,by placing a Steam Defender in the elevator.
He’s waiting to be lifted to the top of the watchtower, where he can scout for them large enemy airships.
He is equipped with a long range sniper rifle, so that he can take out the commanding officer onboard enemy airships.

DDD: I skipped the streaks on the car lights, only blurred them slightly

New update (Hope this make a focus point in the picture)

Post made DOF (Clearly a focus point here, just kidding)

Closeup of Elevator

Ocamax

So do you want the focus to be on the elevator?
If so, i think that the chair on the right draws the attention away because it is big, so it is the first thing that jumps out at you, (before the streaks attracted the attention) and the elevator is kinda in the background with some dude you can barely see…

So here is my idea. either remove the gun/chair completely, or make it smaller and to the side somewhere, or maybe just zoom in closer on the elevator itself, you have a bare wall on the left side that is pretty useless so if you do zoom in i think think the loss of the wall would effect the image that much. (Also an empty wall on the right side…but u got a cool looking bridge above it…)
Also there is empty space between the building and the chair, and i think that somehow effects this picture…i dunno maybe not, i just got reminded by the critique Andrew Price gave on a Construction Floor image in this Focused Critique video he did. ( [I think this one] http://www.blenderguru.com/focused-critique-episode-1/) He also talked about how the guy had alot of detail up top and nothing on the bottom.
So to fix that i guys you can rotate the camera a bit
As for the guy. have you thought about having him just about to enter the elevator? That way he will have a good pose (a run/walk pose) that might attract attention.

So ye here are my thoughts… Oh, question… why is the smoke purple?

Ha. This is great. I’m not very proffecient with other renderers beside blender internal, but I wonder what this would look like with Yafray or Lux.

Here is a “Gimped” version just for fun

Ocamax

If your going for an old photo, turn down the “sepianess”. It should be more black and white than that. Also it might be blurry in some places of have scratch marks.

GraphiX: As I mentioned in the post above it was just for fun. I’m sure You know that them Steam Defenders had High Definition Steam Powered Cameras with Autofocus

Here’s a another quick attempt.

Hmm those renders worked perfectly in bringing the attention to the elevator!
I liked the firs one better though (in post 30)
You can also try for the “sky captain and the world of tomorrow” render style (http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/22987/sky-captain-and-the-world-of-tomorrow/)
http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/images/reviews/116/1154283463.jpg

DDD: I also liked the first one, maybe I’ll try the “Sky Captain” feel later.

GraphiX:As I mentioned in post 32, the Steam Defenders used pretty advanced cameras like this one, which the above picture was taken with. Notice the two ultrasound transducers, which measures the distance to the target.
Also notice the trigger handle, which was developed for quick shots.

Need a little texturing help, on the camera.

For chrome go to all materials known to man. And also, when I was suggesting that the the image be blurry in parts, I was merely suggesting that when an image experiences wear and tear, it gets blurry.

“Notice the two ultrasound transducers” Transducers are used for picking up minute sound and vibrations. They have nothing to do with light and optics. And the "ultrasound’ part of it probably wouldn’t be able to pick up minute enough frequencies through the air to locate and distance certain targets.

I’m not sure what you mean here, I know what chrome is. There are many material shaders
with chrome effect and I have used many of them in my works, but I want a shader that goes from chrome via orange to violet. like in the inset picture.

Ultrasonic transducers have been used as sonar since 1970. Polaroid used it in their
SX-70, Sonar OneStep and SLR 680 models http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polaroid_SX-70
Here is another type : http://electricly.com/srf04-ultrasonic-sensor/

I have myself used one similar to the one in the picture below.

Well shoot, you’re right. I’m used to using little piezo transducers for a pickup. Speaking of which… those look nothing like transducers. Ha, something I finally have right.

Well in the beginning of the 18th century they didn’t have the materials nor the technology we have today. So this is a prototype of the autofocus system. (remember it’s just fantasy, it don’t have to be similar to what we have today. ;))

Here is a picture of what I’ve got so far with the burnt chrome shader.

I’m stuck, so if anyone have some ideas their welcome

Ocamax

I might be able to help you out a little in 2.49 but I don’t use 2.53. Sorry mate.
